At Silver Bluff High in Aiken, SC, Cordrea Tankersley has done a bit of everything.
He likely fits into Clemson’s plans as a defensive back, and on Wednesday became the Tigers’ first 2012 commitment for coach Charlie Harbison’s secondary.
The 6-2, 190-pound Tankersley played primarily as a quarterback during his junior season at Silver Bluff, when he rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns, while passing for nearly 900 yards.
As a sophomore, he had 680 yards rushing and caught a dozen passes.
He’s one of six South Carolina players listed on Scout’s national top-300, where he’s ranked as the state’s No. 4 overall prospect behind wide receiver Shaq Roland of Lexington, defensive lineman Martin Aiken of Bamberg, and Clemson commitment Patrick Destefano, an offensive lineman from Dorman High in Spartanburg.
Scout rates Tankersley as the nation’s No. 29 wide receiver, and as a four-star prospect. Rivals ranks him with three stars, while ESPN rates him as the nation’s No. 45 ‘athlete.’
Tankersley, who plans to attend the second session of Dabo Swinney’s High School Camp, becomes Clemson’s fifth commitment for the class of 2012, and its third in-state player.
Previous commitments include Shaq Lawson, a defensive end from Daniel High in Central, SC; Jay Guillermo, an offensive lineman from Maryville, TN; Germone Hopper, a wide receiver from Charlotte, NC; and Destefano.
