The East Feliciana High Boys Basketball team improved to 4-1 in District 7-2A play after coming away with a 84-55 victory over the Runnels School Raiders last week.
The Tigers used its pressing defense against the visiting Raiders to jumped out to a 11-4 first quarter lead. The Raiders were limited to just one shot and had trouble solving the East Feliciana press. The Tigers ended the period with a 21-10 lead.
East Feliciana maintained its advantage in the second quarter outscoring Runnels 17-14 in the period to take a 38-24 lead at the half.
Runnels began to cut into the deficit in the third quarter. The Raiders outgunned East Feliciana 23-17 in the period to trail 55-47 heading into the fourth quarter.
East Feliciana picked up its defensive pressure in the final period and limited the Raiders to just eight points in the final period. Meanwhile the Tiger offense poured in 29 points in the quarter to extend its lead and seal the 84-55 win.
Tekemian Ceasar led East Feliciana in scoring with 27 points, including three 3-point goals. Thocorence Hawkins followed with 19, and DeAndria Carr added 11 points. Brandon Thomas netted seven points, and Danny Johnson finished with five points. Joseph Robinson and J. Goss each had four points, and Glenn Sims and Devontay Hogan scored three points apiece for the Tigers.
East Feliciana also won the JV contest with a 65-24 win over Runnels.
Also last week the Tigers dropped a 73-49 decision to league leader Donaldsonville.
The win improved Donaldsonville to 5-0 in District 7-2A play and 18-3 overall.
Donaldsonville led from start to finish after jumping out to a 20-11 first quarter lead. East Feliciana was outscored 19-8 in the second period to trail 39-19 at the half.
Donaldsonville maintained its lead in the third quarter outgunning East Feliciana 28-16 in the period to make it 67-35 heading into the fourth quarter. East Feliciana cut into the deficit in the final period by outscoring Donaldsonville 14-5 in the quarter, but the homestanding team had too much of a lead for the Tigers to overcome.
East Feliciana was led by Hawkins with 19 points, followed by Carr with 10, and Sims added five points. Johnson, Justin Turner each had four points and Ceasar finished with three points.
Donaldsonville also won the JV contest with a 42-41 win over East Feliciana.
The Tigers, now 4-1 in District play and 7-7 overall, will host University High on Friday and then play at Capitol next Tuesday in a pair of key league encounters.
